Newsletter Q3-2020

A Decade in Space

Ten years ago this July we started on a new journey and launched Satellogic in the hope
that we could build a company that would help to solve some of the world’s most pressing problems.
A decade into our voyage, I’m proud of the incredible progress we’ve made,
and I’m as excited as I’ve ever been for what lies ahead!

Satellogic has grown to become a global company of over 180 satellite engineers, AI experts, and solution specialists. We’ve proven that our vertically integrated approach can deliver affordable and actionable planetary-scale insights from Earth Observation (EO). By making good on our promise to democratize access to geospatial analytics, I’m confident that Satellogic will play a significant role in addressing the great existential challenges of our time.

Thank you all for everything you’ve done to support Satellogic’s growth and success these past ten years. I am truly honored to serve Satellogic’s valued customers, to collaborate with our investors, and to continue working – day in and day out – alongside the incredible men and women at Satellogic.

Here’s to the next ten years . . . and beyond! Ad Astra!

Emiliano Kargieman – CEO

Through the past ten years, Satellogic has focused on our mission of building an accurate and up-to-date picture of our planet and the many forces that reshape it every day. In doing so, we hoped to empower decision makers around the world. After a decade of growth, we’re proud of all we’ve accomplished in service of this goal. Satellogic has evolved from a small startup into a leader in geospatial analytics with facilities in half a dozen countries and a growing constellation of satellites in orbit.

In the first half of 2020 alone, we’ve added two new satellites to our fleet and our team grew worldwide. We also expanded our Assembly, Integration and Test (AIT) facility in Montevideo, Uruguay, allowing us to further scale production of our spacecraft. Finally, we were also proud to have been chosen as a finalist in the prestigious Satellite Technology of the Year Award, presented by Via Satellite at this year’s SATELLITE 2020.

Over the past decade there have been countless other milestones, from the addition of new customers to the continued development of our products and services.

In the second half of 2020, we will continue to grow our team, our customer base and our constellation, driving down the costs associated with building and operating satellites as we scale, including exclusive access to a dedicated constellation at a price point that is attractive to national and municipal governments as well as smaller enterprises.

With each new achievement, we’re reminded of those whom we serve: decision makers across the globe who rely on our geospatial analytics to lead more resilient organizations. Within the next three years, we expect to complete the construction of the first stage of our Earth Observation satellite constellation, giving us the capacity to remap the entire planet at sub-meter resolution every week.

For Satellogic and our customers, the sky is not the limit!

Earlier this year, we welcomed two new satellites – Sophie and Marie – into the Satellogic constellation.

With ten spacecraft in our fleet we’re delivering planetary scale insights at increasingly high frequency to our customers across the globe.

We’re always working to increase our in-orbit capacity, and we have a number of exciting launches scheduled in the near future:

  • Arianespace is scheduled to deliver our next satellite, Hypatia, into orbit via it’s Vega launch vehicle on August 17th.
  • This October, we’ll be deploying an additional 10 satellites into low Earth orbit on a dedicated rocket.
  • And in Q1 2021, we will be launching 4 additional satellites.
We’ll continue to grow our in-orbit capacity to best serve our current and future customers. With more than 20 commercial satellites in orbit by 2021 we’ll be able to revisit any specific point of interest at a global average of 4 times per day, scaling to up to 18 times per day by 2024. At the same time that we are improving the frequency of the data acquisition, we are improving the resolution of our imagery. In 2021 we will start delivering 70cm resolution data to best serve our existing and new customers.

In the coming months we will also be launching new “on ground” capabilities, including our self-serve AI platform for geospatial imagery, an end-to-end customer-centric EO digital product that improves access to geo-intelligence, automating this process for knowledge capitalization.

Satellogic is in a unique position to become the global Earth Observation utility, to deliver fresh actionable insights from orbit to help every organization be prepared for the challenges of tomorrow.
